I Forgive, Hold No Grudges — Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he bears no grudges against anyone and is always willing to forgive, no matter the offence.

Jonathan made the remark on Wednesday at a requiem mass in Abuja for the late Chief Audu Ogbeh, whom he described as a model of humility and reconciliation.

“Chief Ogbeh was a man who did not seek revenge. He believed the past should be left behind. In that sense, he was just like me. If you hurt me today, I will forgive you. I don’t carry grudges against people,” Jonathan said.

He recalled meeting Ogbeh during his days as deputy governor, when Ogbeh served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite the low regard often given to deputy governors at the time, Jonathan said Ogbeh treated him with respect and warmth.

“Our friendship grew from there, and even when I became president, he would still visit me, and we would spend hours discussing national issues,” he noted.

Jonathan urged politicians to emulate Ogbeh’s values of humility, forgiveness, and bridge-building.

“Leadership is not just about power but about service, reconciliation, and building unity. Chief Ogbeh’s life teaches us that lesson,” he added.

The requiem mass was attended by family, political associates, and friends who paid tribute to Ogbeh’s contributions as a politician, elder statesman, and advocate for national unity.
